Institute of Wellbeing releases first report
The Institute of Wellbeing (formerly the Canadian Index of Wellbeing) just released its first report.
It looks like an interesting and very plain-language read. From their release note:
If you’ve ever wondered How Canadians are REALLY doing, you’re in the right place. A newly released report shows that: even in good economic times the lion’s share of benefits go to the wealthy while the poor stay poor and the shrinking middle class muddles through; Canadians are living longer but not healthier – health among teenagers is especially worrying; but crime is down and social relationships in our communities are stronger. The report also shows that cuts or lack of improvements to government programs like welfare, Employment Insurance and publicly funded medical services are hurting Canadians.
There’s an overview report (drawing links between the three research reports) available, plus full research reports on living standards, healthy populations and community vitality, all of which are likely to interest health promoters. Note that the research reports don’t automatically download — the links from the Index of Wellbeing main page take you to a subpage on which you will then need to use the navigation in the left-hand column to access the research report subpages.
